I'm officially 6 years old now. I told my Dad I feel more responsible and assume I'll have to do more chores. He asked what chores I do now and I couldn't think of any. Anyway, chores aside it feels good to be 6.

Had treats at school in my classroom on Monday because Tuesday, my actual birthday, had an unexpected day at home. Water main pipe issue at school so the school closed for the day. My Mom said I could open my presents Monday night and play with them all day yesterday on my birthday. Mom made my fav dinner, beef tenderloin, last night. This Saturday have my friends party in the afternoon and cousin Michael sleeping over afterwards.

Above is me in one of my new birthday gifts. I look good.

Hello All,
It's been fall here still. We had snow one weekend when Mom and I went sledding. Otherwise, it was brown grass all through December.

I had a fantastic winter break, 17 days off school to whoop it up! Had playdates with Michael, Luke, Liam, Landen, Bjorn, Annie and Hayden. Saw "Arthur Christmas" and "Puss in Boots." Visited the candy store and the Baaken. Saw a play with the grandparents. Hit the indoor park and Pump It Up. And partied it up on New Year's Eve. Got a Nintendo DS and lots of Legos for Christmas.

Tomorrow it's back to reality....oh well. Happy 2012 everyone!!!

Had an absolute ball over MEA break in Chicago. Highlights included the Shedd Aquarium, the Field Museum, the Adler Planetarium, the Museum of Science and Industry, and the top of the Sears Tower. Great meals, great fun, rode the train, and generally bonded with the parents for 4 1/2 days.

Progress Report

Hello All,

My parents went to their first parent/teacher conference the other day. Apparently I'm doing great! Senora Sala-Healey said I was a bit shy at first but I have really warmed up. I'm very well behaved and she never has to worry about me not cooperating. I need to work on my cutting and writing skills but apparently have impressed her with being a quick learner and knowing a lot of stuff. And I'm really picking up the Spanish too. So all in all, the ol' parents were quite pleased.

Take the bus - have a regular seat buddy I sit with and he's older, a 1st grader!
Bringing lunch from home - Mom packs exactly what I want.

Made my first classroom buddy, Bjorn. He gave me an army man toy.
Think my teacher Sra. Sala-Healey is so nice.
Love learning Spanish all day long and coming home to share with the fam.
Turns out math is quite fun.
Go to bed tired from all that good knowledge I've crammed in my noggin during the day. Wonder if any of it will spill out my ears???
Now understand why everyone lives for the weekend!

37 days to go till I start Kindergarten and boy am I excited! Last night my parents and I did a practice bus ride, learning all about the rules and how to be safe on the bus. I'm going to take the bus to school in the mornings so it's good to be informed.

Just 6 more days left at BBY school. After 5+ years it will be very different to leave. Have a fun August planned with a 2 week day-camp with best buddies Luke, Alex, and Zach and fun at home days with my parents and with my great nanny Gabby.

Summer vacation at the lake

Back from a week at the lake. Stayed in a cabin up in Brainerd. What a week! Grandpa Terry and Grandma Barb came for a few days as did Margaret and Michael. Here are some of my coups for the week:

Swam out to the lake's floating dock and jumped in - Margaret said this was a rite of passage for every kid
Tour de Kavanaugh's in a 5 person surrey bike with my parents, Michael, and Margaret
Enjoyed a leisurely pontoon ride around the lake with Dad at the wheel - took a refreshing dip in the middle of the lake
Grandma and Mom took me for a spin in a canoe - I think they thought it was more exciting than I did
Family nature hike - didn't complain too much and just ran or skipped when I was bored
Respectable showing in the creek rubber duck races
Went jet-skiing with my parents - you would have thought Dad has been doing it for years as he quickly mastered it
Swam 2 or 3 times every day and impressed two 4 year-olds with my mad pool skills
Built some truly amazing sand castle compounds - more fun to build or destroy?!?!
All in all had a truly great, great time

Mid-summer movie update from our very own critic, Finnie B.

Have seen this spring/summer Thor, X-Men First Class, Pirates of the Caribbean 4, Kung Fu Panda 2, Green Lantern, Cars 2, and Transformers Dark of the Moon. Who knew they would release so many great flicks this time of the year?!?

No thumbs down for any of these films but Pirates and Transformers were top of the heap. Grab a friend, a bucket of popcorn, and a comfy theater chair for yourself and check 'em out!

PS A lot of rain the last few months hasn't been all bad. Lots of chances to hit the movies!

How I spent my stay-cation

Hello all,

Am on a 10 day stay-cation and loving it! I did a soccer/basketball/baseball camp in the mornings which was great fun. Mom (also on stay-cation) and me have seen a couple of movies, gone to the King Tut exhibit (2nd time), practiced biking without training wheels, gone swimming, hit balls at the driving range, gone to the park, and had a playdate with Michael. I've got 2 more days to go before I have to darken the doors of BBY school again.

Tomorrow we are doing a cooking class together and taking Dad out for father's day. Monday my summer nanny Gabby starts.

Even a little rain off and on this week could not dampen the wonder of the stay-cation!

End of an Era

I have been attending Best Buy School for 5 years now, ever since I was a wee little lad. I've moved through all the rooms - from infants to older infants to toddlers to young pre-school to mid-pre to finally big pre-K. And on Thursday I am going to graduate. Ceremony to be held in the Best Buy Theater with my parents and grandparents in attendance. I'm quite excited because Kindergarten is right around the corner and I'm ready for the next adventure. It's been a great ride at Best Buy school, made a lot of cool friends, had a ball car-pooling with Mom and meeting up with her for lunch. Mom's organized a big picnic for the graduates next weekend so 60+ of us are going to get together to celebrate this accomplishment.

I've got an awesome summer to look forward to - going to have Gaby as my nanny 2 days a week and we'll do lots of fun things together. Doing a soccer/basketball/baseball camp, taking 2 weeks of vacation with the family, going to Y outdoor camp with Grayson, Jordan, Jack, and Cole, and finishing off the summer with 2 weeks of another Y camp with best buddies Luke, Alex, and Zach. Now if we can just get to stop raining long enough to enjoy the summer!

Busy sports spring for me. Swim lessons on-going and am really doing well according to my teacher. I am getting better at my back-stroke.

Y soccer again on Thursday nights. Team was in need of a coach and my mom stepped in to be our coach. I think she's having even more fun than I am!

Golf lessons having been hard going due to all the rainy weekends. Lots of reschedules but I just know my trusty 5 iron will see the sun soon!

Saw "Mars Needs Moms" with my mom, "Rango" with my mom and cousin Michael, and "Hop" with my mom, Michael, and aunt Margaret all in the course of about 3 weeks.

"Hop" - combo live action/animation about the heir to the Easter Bunny throne who wants to be a drummer in a rock and roll band. Review: Great shots of the candy factory, cute story. Score A+.
"Mars Needs Moms" - Martians steal a young boy's mom to help raise their kids and he comes to her rescue right before she almost dies. Review: Good action, the part when the mom almost dies made me cry and I had to hug my mom alot. Score A-.
"Rango" - domesticated lizard ends up in a dessert town and has to save the town from a water shortage and bad critters. Review: Fun to be there with Mike but I got antsy during the film, not that great. Score B-.

Monday 1/31 I turned 5 years old. I think I look bigger and older. Had a fun room party with treats at school. Mom and Dad came to join the fun.

Age old question....how does one get through chilly MN with a smile on your face and no frost-bite on your toes? Well, here's a few things I suggest:

Swim lessons in a hot, steamy pool - just make sure there is a big, dry towel handy
Indoor soccer - this will work up a good sweat and for an extra bonus it is socially acceptable to wear shorts which reminds one of summer
Put on a silly play for parents and supportive friends who are over for dinner - gets your creative juices flowing
Attend as many birthday parties for friends as you can - thanks Michael, Grayson, Alex, Zach, Luke, and Ashley for all turning 5 this month!
Sleepover at your favorite cousin's house - downside you do have to go home the next day
Last but not least....end the month with a bang and turn 5 yourself.

Over the holiday break Mom, Dad, and I visited Legoland. What a store! If you haven't been you should drop everything now and run right out there. It's amazing!

I really, really, really like Legos. I have sets from Star Wars, Harry Potter, LegoCity, NinjaGo, Kingdoms, WorldRace, etc... I build all the guys and Mom builds all the sets. We work together at the table. She's a good little Lego builder if you ever need a hand.

Hmm...what a festive and fun month!

Started out well as I followed an old Sarazin tradition of putting out my shoes by the fireplace for St. Nick on 12/5. My shoes are small so St. Nick kindly found all my shoes and proceeded to fill them with chocolate candy bars. Wish I could wake up to candy-filled shoes every day!

Spent some good quality time with the cool, big kids on my block...the Kleins.

Made gingerbread houses and cookies with Grandma Barb. I think she was a wee surprised at how "take charge" I was of the whole operation but I really did need to step in and keep her on task.

Great night out downtown seeing the Christmas North Pole display at Macy's (liked it so much we went through twice) and dinner at Ike's.

Whole family took time off over the holidays and I had 12 days at home. Great staycation of Santa bringing gifts, family gatherings, movies, bowling, Michael sleepover, sledding, etc...

Super Pet Club

Had a great time at dinner with my buddy Leif and his parents Eric and Darby. On the way home in the car mom told me some great stories about Super Pet Club. Their dog Scout and our cat Emer are in it. Our neighbor dog Stan the Man is the boss of the club. Leif and I are the only humans in the club. We battle all kinds of bad guys. Everyone in the club can fly except Stan, he's gotten old.

The next morning mom and I drew pictures of the club members, secret HQ, and some of our battles.

Dad's Girlfriend

Dad gave mom an iPad for her bday in October. So far dad has mostly been the one using it so mom calls it dad's girlfriend. Dad and I were in the living room when I touched it and it turned on.

Great Apple Taste Test

Inspired by our activity at school I decided to organize an apple taste test for my mom, dad, grandma Barb, and grandpa Terry today. My mom helped with the cutting but I got it all set up and even made a chart of everyone's preferences. Turns out Honey Crisp was a hit (no surprise there), Red Delicious did better than expected, and Granny Smith made everyone's mouth pucker. I'm already planning future taste tests for this influential group of foodies!!
